Hamlet
Hamlet is the main protagonist, Prince of Denmark, and son of Queen Gertrude and King Hamlet. He is often bitter about his mother's quick remarriage to his uncle, Claudius, the new King, and constantly insulting them by referring to his mother as mother-aunt and to his uncle as uncle-father. In addition, he is in a complicated affair with Ophelia.
Claudius
The new king and Hamlet's uncle and stepfather. Claudius poisoned his brother, thus marrying the Queen (Gertrude) and taking his place as king. He craves power but shows signs of guilt as the play goes on.
Gertrude
The Queen of Denmark and remarried to King Claudius. Gertrude really does love Hamlet, but seeks affection and attention by others more.
Polonius
Polonius is Laertes and Ophelia's father. He often is overprotective over Ophelia and her love life with Hamlet. Additionally, Polonius also aids in the plot of killing Prince Hamlet and gets killed because of it.
Ophelia
Hamlet's lover, Polonius's daughter and Laertes's sister. She is very obedient and reliant towards her brother and father and does whatever they tell her to do. Eventually, she goes crazy by being torn between her family and Hamlet. She commits suicide consequently.
Horatio
Horatio in other words is Hamlet's best friend. He stays loyal to Hamlet throughout his entire life and almost kills himself but stays alive to tell others what happened as Hamlet wishes.
Laertes
Laertes is Polonius's son and Ophelia's brother. He spends most of his time at school and is also overprotective over Ophelia, just like his father. After he finds out Ophelia is dead, he asks to be buried alive with her and fights with Hamlet at her grave. He and Hamlet later end up killing each other with the poisoned sword during their duel and asks for forgiveness as they both die.
Fortinbras
The prince of Norway with a plan to attack and claim Denmark for themselves. In the end, he arrives to find everyone on the ground, dead and crowns himself as the ruler of Denmark.
The Ghost
The ghost is the spirit of Hamlet's father who plans to seek revenge for his brother Claudius through Hamlet.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern
Both of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are courtiers and "friends" of Hamlet. They are recruited by the King and Queen to spy on Hamlet but Hamlet finds out that they were spying on him anyways. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are later killed.
